Molecular Biological Assistance with Clinical Studies
The services enterprise Oncoscreen guarantees a professional processing of your molecular biological investigations (mutation and gene expression analyses) in the framework of clinical studies. With the use of typical blood or tissue samples, we can assist you in performing the prospective molecular biological aspects of your clinical studies on your behalf. Furthermore, a newly developed innovative procedure from Oncoscreen makes possible the retrospective analysis of studies, provided paraffin embedded tissue samples are available.

Paraffin preserved tissue
Oncoscreen achieves impeccable results with quantitative RT-PCR from paraffin preserved tissue.
To this end, Oncoscreen has developed an innovative procedure for the preparation of RNA from paraffin preserved tissue, and using it has isolated RNA from more than 1000 paraffin blocks for investigational purposes, some of which were up to 20 years old.

Some results from validation experiments, which are illustrated opposite, confirm the high reliability of this method in comparison with other established techniques of RNA extraction from fresh tissue. In each of the examples shown, the expressions of two genes in tumour samples were quantified, in which one was paraffin preserved (24-36 hours formaline fixation) and the other deep frozen (see images). "Several Clinical Studies directed by Oncoscreen Ltd"
The innovative procedure from Oncoscreen distinguishes itself from previous methods through a significantly greater yield of quantifiable RNA. Because this RNA, despite special treatment, cannot be returned to its original condition, Oncoscreen has correspondingly modified all subsequent steps (reverse transcription into cDNA, PCR).
It is thus immediately possible for you to utilize the comprehensive and generally excellently documented banks of paraffin conserved samples for your molecular biological investigations. By submitting clinical progression data, new molecular markers can thus be quickly evaluated for their diagnostic validity.
Already completed clinical studies with large sets of samples, can now be quickly and without significant logistic effort, investigated retrospectively from new molecular biological standpoints.

Fresh Tissue Specimens
Oncoscreen has developed innovative techniques for the extraction of RNA and DNA from various types of clinical samples. These techniques are particularly suited for subsequent molecular biological investigations (mutation and gene expression analyses).

Needle Biopsies
Biopsies are good candidates for molecular biological investigations. Oncoscreen has developed a proprietary standardised procedure for the routine preparation of RNA and DNA from needle biopsies. The nucleic acid preparations are used by Oncoscreen for both mutation and gene expression analyses.
The biopsies can be sent to our laboratory deep frozen or at room temperature in a special preservation fluid (provided by Oncoscreen).

Primary Tumours / Normal Tissue Samples
Primary tumour samples can, like biopsies, be sent to Oncoscreen deep frozen or at room temperature in a special preservation fluid (provided by Oncoscreen).

Blood Samples
Oncoscreen has developed standardised techniques for the routine extraction of RNA and DNA from peripheral blood. EDTA-anticoagulated blood (standard haemogram monovette) is used as an initial material. This can be used by Oncoscreen for mutation and gene expression analyses, and also the quantification of minimal residual tumour cells.
Depending on the application, the haemogram can be sent directly to Oncoscreen where the further processing takes place. In some cases it can be advantageous to perform the preparation and preservation of the leucocytes immediately after blood removal on location. Oncoscreen provides customers in such cases with the necessary materials and an easy to follow laboratory instructions.
